Tucked away in the quiet neighborhoods surrounding State Street sits a school just for small children. Our facility, which once was St. Mary Elementary School, is now the home to the youngest of students. The school is filled with three and four year-old preschool children and Young Fives, which is a pre-kindergarten class. This year we have over 60 children attending kindergarten.
In partnerships with families, parishes, and the community, the Early Childhood Center staff focuses on the spiritual, social and academic needs of the young child. It is our goal to help the child develop the skills necessary to be successful in school and to foster a relationship with Jesus, the Good Shepherd. In addition to the regular curriculum, the children in the 4 year old, young five and the Kindergarten classes attend the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd religious formation program. The primary purpose of the Good Shepherd experience is to help children know and enjoy God. This program is not just head knowledge but heart knowledge. It is not to teach a lot of things about God, but rather, to teach them to develop a relationship with God. How wonderful to be a part of watching a young child grow closer to God all by his/her self.
In addition to the school program, we also house a child care program called Flyer Clubhouse. From 6:30 am to 6:00 pm, children from preschool through grade 6 who attend the Norwalk Catholic School can spend part of their day with us. The Clubhouse offers enrichment activities, homework tutors, a safe environment, and support for added growth. What a very happy and busy place!
